One Parade, Lots of Confetti and a Few Photos

What amazingly lucky fans we are.  I’ve gotten to blog about two World Series wins and now, two World Series parades.  I want to pinch myself, because that is marvelous and crazy.  Hats off to the 2012 Giants – an absolutely wonderful team that will leave us with memories for years to come.

After the parade was over, we got to walk down the middle of Market and confetti fell like snow.  Truly magical.

And why yes, I am carrying a coffee cup in each hand in my photo-op with The Adorable Little Brother.  No parade would be complete without two coffees.  Money on Hunter Pence agreeing with me.

ROBBED! – In the Absence of Forbes, Diamond Girl’s Best Dressed MLB’er List feat. Ryan, Andy & Andres

Robbed!  This week, Forbes magazine named the best dressed athletes of 2010.  There are three basketball players, two NFLers, two hockey players, three tennis players (well, four people, if you count the William’s sisters as two, which they don’t), one soccer player, one boxer, one golfer and one equestrian.  There is an equestrian on there.  But not ONE baseball player.  Huh?  Baseball players have some style issues, but they couldn’t find one put on the list?  Inexcusable snub.  Y’all know what’s coming next.  Here it is:  SF Diamond Girl’s Best Dressed Baseball Players list.  Here we go.

Best Dressed: Ryan Braun

No one saw that coming, right?  Not only does Ryan always ace it in public appearances he designs his own line of clothing which is hip, unique and still a little classic.  The line is described as, “[It] displays rich symbols of past and present, good and evil, grit and glam recreated in a pageantry of fashion. Emblems of war, peace, love and myth, are woven into the wearable translation of an unfolding story.”  If I spent $60 on a t-shirt, I would totally buy one.  But, on principle, I won’t.

Runner-Up:  Andy Pettitte

I just adore the way Andy plays with stripes here.  The straight and diagonal stripes mesh in a slightly edgy look and the grey suit and pink tie complement each other perfectly.  Huge success.

Runner Up #2:  Andres Torres

Yeah, I know he’s blinking.  But this is the only picture where you can see the boot-cut jeans in all their glory.  And the trendy jacket.  It’s casual and fun and the darker wash jeans make it professional enough for the event at hand.  (But not too professional.  See Zito for a this-is-what-you-should-not-do.)

So Forbes, you were wrong.  Baseball players can be fashion gurus too.  And I would like to say that Beckham, Casiraghi, and Federer are the only people who warrant the title of best-dressed on your list. Robbed, I say!

Confetti Falls from the Sky, Giants Fans Flood the Streets of San Francisco and Something Important and Barry Zito Related Happens

The World Series Champions Parade.  Party like it’s 1954.  But it wasn’t as gorgeously fairytale-like as the title might imply.

Parade.jpg

It’s being said that there were over a million people and it sure felt like it.  Some of those people were also spraying champagne, and I, of course, got sprayed.  This is called Diamond Girl luck.  It was at least ten people deep at every point of the parade that I saw and as sweet as it was of some of the players to walk on the street instead of standing inside their bordering-on-incredibly-dorky-cable-cars, no one except those in the front row could see them.  So from my vantage point, a lot of them were MIA.  Still, the crowd was mostly happy and friendly and no denying it; the city was thrilled.  In the BART train, in the mall, everywhere, there were chants and high-fives and random, happy displays of love towards the Giants, the city and each other.  And the confetti falling from the sky was a bit fairytale like.

A day doesn’t pass where something important and Barry Zito related doesn’t happen, so without further ado…

Hey, Barry.  I hate picking on you.  I’m going to try to be nice about this, because it’s nothing personal.  I just thought we were over any sunglasses that had even a remotely aviator shape to them.  ‘Cause remember?  They don’t suit you.  And you have to un-tuck that shirt collar if you wear it with that kind of sweater.  A splash of color somewhere wouldn’t hurt either.  I don’t know what, if any, is the dress code for the players in the parade, but I think something a little more fun and casual would be appropriate.  Or why not rock a fedora?

If nothing else, get rid of the sunglasses, okay?

I hope they’re enjoying the Diamond-Girl-Karma-Infused trophy.  All these player negotiations have made me turn my thoughts to the 2011 season.  May the trophy bring us all good luck in 2011.  I’m pumped- who’s with me?
