Why I Don’t Want a Giants Belt Buckle

Much as I love my Texas Rangers, I do not live in Texas for a reason.  I do not like country music.  I do not like hot weather.  I do not wear belt buckles.  Horses sort of scare me.  And although I do have something of an incredible British accent, I can’t talk Texan for the life of me.  And I repeat, I do not wear belt buckles.  Not even Giant belt buckles.

They are a fashion-faux pas.

They are really slightly bizarre.

So what is prompting my anti-belt buckle rampage?

Well, have you taken a look at the Giants 2011 promotions calendar?

On Saturday, July 23rd (versus the Brewers, so I may actually be there) we will be treated to Country Western Night and the first 20,000 fans get a Giants belt buckle.

Where do they come up with these ideas?

If they’d promised me a coupon for a free download of Letters from Home sung by Aubrey Huff it would have gotten the same point across, but in a preferable way.  Or a DVD of The Frisco Kid, which is the only Western-ish movie I’ve even seen and that was because I am a Harrison Ford fangirl.  Or something- anything- other than a belt buckle.

Anyway.  The next day, also against the Brewers, is Fedora Day, where we all get free fedoras.  No one looks good in fedoras except A-Rod of Cam-Rod.  Even he is questionable in them.

What is it about the Brewers inspiring the Giants to bad promotions?

I’m not even going to the touch the whole Bring Your Dog Day thing.  Been there, said that.

Peace and Love and Antlers to All + My Resolutions for 2011

Peace and love and antlers to all!

I am purging 2010 (though seriously, what is there to purge?  The Giants and the Rangers played each other in the World Series) by redoing my nail polish.  Even so, I love New Year’s Eve and am pumped for 2011.  It’s going to be very good.  Armando Galarraga will do fantastically along with Eugenio Velez (he’ll do well, but the Dodgers won’t, of course) and Joe Martinez, who will be signed by the Rangers before the offseason ends.  ::Diamond Girl gives Jon Daniels a very pointed look::  The Niners may also hire me as their GM (okay, yes, that’s unlikely).  Bud Selig will decide to do important things like make the wild card wild and rename the Winter Meetings (this year from December 6th-9th) because everyone knows winter begins on December 21st.  The world will get over their Glee complex and watch baseball instead.  And the world will accept the antlers as the truth of all creation and wear them all year round.

I’m not really into New Year resolutions, but I’m going to try it this year.

1.  I resolve to visit my grandparents in Los Angeles without fighting over whether Wilson or Broxton is a better closer.

2.  I resolve to dissolve my life savings and go to Citi Field or Yankee Stadium.

3.  I resolve to carry a sign to an A’s vs. Rangers game and get the object of my sign to autograph it.

4.  I resolve to crash the 2011 GM Meetings.

5.  I resolve to repeat my feat of walking over every inch of AT&T Park in stilettos.

Okay.  I now have plenty to do next year.  Soon it’ll be time (It’s Time!) to settle in for a night of delayed Times Square.  Happy New Year everyone.   Hugs and cupcakes and aviator Prada sunglasses to all in the coming year.  2011′s gonna rule.

Diamond Girl

p.s.  2010 was my first year at this- blogging- and so I want to thank you all again for reading and commenting.  71 entries.  A lot of talk about Ryan Braun.  I dig the world.

Ryan Braun Gets Gushy, Zack Greinke Gets Fit Up With Some Sunglasses and Jayson Werth Debuts a New Look

Things that make me giddily excited: a.  the Winter Meetings.  b.  Brownies.  c.  Big, unexpected trades.  Y’all know what I’m talking about.  Even Ryan Braun seemed giddily excited.  Although I have a semi-irrational suspicion that his management had a knife to his back while he spoke to the press.  Because Ryan being that gushy about them is just odd.

Anyway, I hope it goes well for Greinke in Milwaukee.  I don’t know the team and division well enough to have an informed opinion (Brewers diehards, come to my rescue!) on whether they could really contend next year, but I obviously hope they do.  I was sad to see that Jeremy Jeffress was a part of the trade, because he was the sweet guy who threw me a ball at the Brewers game last year.  But I wish him all the best in KC.

And to congratulate Greinke on his trade, he gets some sunglasses.  Round/heart-shaped face = square sunglasses.  These are by- who else?- Prada.

Which reminded me that at Werth’s Nationals press conference on Wednesday, he debuted a decidedly better look.

 Before and After

So, true to my word, I’ve fitted him up with some designer sunglasses.

This pair wouldn’t fit on this picture, but here they are, by Giorgio Armani:

sunglasses.gif

They’re not too big, which would overwhelm his face, but they have soft angles to contrast his angular face.  And they’re only $275.  Total steal for designer sunglasses.  And total steals on designer sunglasses is another thing that makes me giddily excited.

ROBBED! – In the Absence of Forbes, Diamond Girl’s Best Dressed MLB’er List feat. Ryan, Andy & Andres

Robbed!  This week, Forbes magazine named the best dressed athletes of 2010.  There are three basketball players, two NFLers, two hockey players, three tennis players (well, four people, if you count the William’s sisters as two, which they don’t), one soccer player, one boxer, one golfer and one equestrian.  There is an equestrian on there.  But not ONE baseball player.  Huh?  Baseball players have some style issues, but they couldn’t find one put on the list?  Inexcusable snub.  Y’all know what’s coming next.  Here it is:  SF Diamond Girl’s Best Dressed Baseball Players list.  Here we go.

Best Dressed: Ryan Braun

ryan braun remetee.jpg

No one saw that coming, right?  Not only does Ryan always ace it in public appearances he designs his own line of clothing which is hip, unique and still a little classic.  The line is described as, “[It] displays rich symbols of past and present, good and evil, grit and glam recreated in a pageantry of fashion. Emblems of war, peace, love and myth, are woven into the wearable translation of an unfolding story.”  If I spent $60 on a t-shirt, I would totally buy one.  But, on principle, I won’t.

Runner-Up:  Andy Pettitte

andy pettitte.jpg

I just adore the way Andy plays with stripes here.  The straight and diagonal stripes mesh in a slightly edgy look and the grey suit and pink tie complement each other perfectly.  Huge success.

Runner Up #2:  Andres Torres

Yeah, I know he’s blinking.  But this is the only picture where you can see the boot-cut jeans in all their glory.  And the trendy jacket.  It’s casual and fun and the darker wash jeans make it professional enough for the event at hand.  (But not too professional.  See Zito for a this-is-what-you-should-not-do.)

So Forbes, you were wrong.  Baseball players can be fashion gurus too.  And I would like to say that Beckham, Casiraghi, and Federer are the only people who warrant the title of best-dressed on your list. Robbed, I say!

Day One in Snowflake Earrings Retrospective: Black Friday Wishlist filled with Rangers Toaster, “Don’t Ask Me, Ask Barry” Tees and More

I am in a good mood today.  It’s Day One in snowflake earrings.  I have these snowflake earrings I adore, but I only wear them from the day after Thanksgiving ’til the beginning or March or so.  I am savoring every day.

So here I am, sitting with my laptop  checking store websites to see if there are any good deals.  So far: nothing.  Nothing that incites me to scream and click “checkout”.  Not even anything that incites me to scream under my breath.  I am disappointed in Black Friday.  It strikes me as a bit like Body Scanner Opt-Out Day… way media hyped and not really that huge a deal.  Correct me if I’m wrong, Black Friday-ers!

Anyway, just because I’m not buying doesn’t mean I’m not oogling some stuff.  So I decided to make my holiday wish list.  Baseball themed holiday wish list, that is.  I’m telling the people in my life to buy me silly things like an Evenstar necklace pendant and a Sephora 30 color eye-shadow palette.  But this list is just a lot of things I don’t need (I do need an Evenstar pendant, you know) but think are adorable and worth staring at for a few minutes.  And a few things I think are too funny not to share.

(I would also like to note that I currently have a Cubs Christmas tree ornament.  It’s a little snowman, with a Cubs logo on his front, came straight from Chicago.  Very sweet, but I’m not a Cubs fan.  So it’s on my dresser.  Sort of hidden.)

The Good

Texas Rangers L-O-V-E T-shirt by Majestic Athletic

$21.99

shop.mlb.com

I’m not usually into using something other than a team color to make a shirt more feminine, as I discussed here, but this one is just so adorable.  The pink makes sense, here.

San Francisco Giants Women’s “Get on Board” T-shirt

$21.99

shop.mlb.com

Aside from the giant faux-pas of using a font that is/resembles Curlz MT, which is almost as overused as Comic Sans (have I mentioned that I am a font geek?), I want this shirt now.  It’s unique and has a San Francisco flare which I love.

Ask Barry T-shirt

$35.4

zazzle.com

Back in the day, the story goes, Barry Zito and Barry Bonds had lockers next to each other and at Spring Training one year, they wore these t-shirts.  “Don’t Ask Me, Ask Barry” is a great way to answer people.  And an even better way to answer people is to, you know, point at your shirt.  So I want one.

San Francisco Giants Dangle Earrings

If someone gave these to me, I might actually take out my snowflake earrings for a day during Snowflake Earring Season.  Might.

 The Funny

Boelter San Francisco Giants Personalized Bowl

$39.99

shop.mlb.com

a. I will not pay 39.99 for a bowl.  b. Does it come with pretzels?  c.  PERSONALIZED BOWL? Not cool, darling people.  Not cool.

Pangea Texas Rangers ProToast Toaster

$34.99

shop.mlb.com

How do they come up with these things?  And I’m taking votes: who thinks they made a piece of toast with the “T” on it and who they thinks they just Photoshopped it in?  And why do they sell a Rangers toaster and not a Giants one?  Do they think people in Texas eat more toast?  Or people in San Fran are all on non-wheat diets?

toaster.jpg

So who went shopping this Friday and did you find anything incredible?  And what’s on your holiday wish list this year?

Will report on Day Two in Snowflake Earrings.

Diamond Girl

p.s.  Apologies for the oddness in the font, bolds etc.  MLBlogs is being a little weird.  I will try to fix it again later.
