Karma and Manic Panic and Wookiees

I distinctly remember writing a blog post called 10 Possible Reasons People Walk Off Against the Giants So Much last June.  It’s May 9th and karma is proving that it exists and if you haven’t been to the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco, go right now.  There’s lots of fabulous stuff about karma in addition to which it’s a completely lovely museum and they have a glass elevator and stuff.  So, seriously.  Go.

Back to the point: an uncomfortable number of people walked off against the Giants last June or thereabouts.   (I’m trusting my blog on this one.  I have the memory of goldfish and can’t distinctly remember much of anything about last June.  But still.)  So now here it is, May 2013 and the Giants have turned that on its head and walked off about a million times so far this season.  5, to be exact.

Not bad, eh?

There’s a lot of panic – not the neon hairdye manic kind, get your mind out of the hipster gutter – about the starting pitching because it hasn’t been that good at all.  But I mean, while there’s Hunter Pence and hopefully more of his kind on whatever alien planet he came from who are just waiting for the right alignment of the stars to come down to earth and help us, things should be okay.

Speaking of more Hunter Pences, was I the only person who was dead convinced that Chewbecca was the only/last of his kind until all the wookiees appeared… at some point in the series?  (Er, can’t say I remember when that is, exactly.)  Anyway, I like to think Hunter Pence is the same way.  We’re all resigned to the fact he’s the only one and then in the nick of time a whole bunch of them descend.

Well, that’s probably enough for now.  If I missed some important news, apologies, but there are like thousands of little baseball sites here on the internet so we’ll probably all survive.

Ladies and Gentleman, Opening Day.

Ladies and gentlemen, Opening Day:

(Via @CarmenKiew on Twitter.)

It wasn’t exactly the Opening Day we were all hoping for, but it was OPENING DAY so that pretty much made up for it, at least to me.  The Giants opened against Clayton Kershaw and those Los Angeles Dodgers and Kershaw was very Superman-y and pitched a shutout and also hit a homerun – the first of his career – to break the scoreless tie.

Oh, did I forget to mention that he helped build an orphanage in Zambia in the offseason?

Seriously, though, Kershaw is good stuff to watch and the rivalry is more fun when both teams are doing well and all that.  Which is to say, the Giants have to do well too.  But they have 161 more games to do that, so Mayans, back off.  And they’ll probably only face Kershaw a few more times, so that’s good news.

Baseball is back and just in time for April Fool’s Day, no less.  I’d don’t mean to be antagonistic, Bud Selig, seeing as this is a new season with a clean slate between us (right?) but that was sort of bad planning on your part.  Like, maybe if there were fewer Interleague Play games we could have started the season on a day other than Annual Prank Unsuspecting Emilys Day?

Forget it.  Antagonistic it is.

Happy Eve-of-Winter-Meetings!

Hello, everyone!  I spent the better part of today defrosting and cutting up frozen peas for my sick fish only for him to give me as near as someone without an eyebrow can to a quizzical eyebrow and be all, “I don’t know what you’re smoking, Emily, but there is no way.”  So I gave up on him and went to Starbucks for a peppermint mocha.  He seems okay now.  Still hasn’t eaten the peas, though.

This little guy is a Giants fan, so I’d have to take care of him.

Also, the Winter Meetings start tomorrow, which means all is doubly well.  For those of you who have never taken the time to read my bio a) do it now b) it helpfully informs innocent passersby that the Winter Meetings are my favorite part of the year.  No joke.  I mean, the World Series is pretty rad and all, but seriously, nothing is better than all the heads in baseball getting together to feud and make trades and stuff.

There’s also the inherent hilarity of sending hundreds of media people to hang out in the lobby while the GMs hide out upstairs.  It sounds like the opening to a joke, because… it kind of is.

Us Giants fans will be on the lookout for deals with Pagan and Scutaro, a potential extension on Posey and maybe one for Hunter Pence, although Sabes made it sound like that is only happening in yo dreams, yo.  I don’t reallyatall trust him, though, so I’ll still be in the lookout for it.

Them Rangers are linked to pretty much every big name on the market, because that’s just how JD rolls, so I honestly have no idea what direction they will go.  But they will go one direction.  One Direction.  Get it, guys, get it?

Ahem.

The Josh Hamilton rumor mill is as busy as ever.  My guess is he’ll go to one of 30 teams, but who knows, could be wrong.

Happy Winter Meetings, everyone!

p.s.  Stop talking about football, silly people.  Hibernation is looking like an increasingly attractive option.

One Parade, Lots of Confetti and a Few Photos

What amazingly lucky fans we are.  I’ve gotten to blog about two World Series wins and now, two World Series parades.  I want to pinch myself, because that is marvelous and crazy.  Hats off to the 2012 Giants – an absolutely wonderful team that will leave us with memories for years to come.

After the parade was over, we got to walk down the middle of Market and confetti fell like snow.  Truly magical.

And why yes, I am carrying a coffee cup in each hand in my photo-op with The Adorable Little Brother.  No parade would be complete without two coffees.  Money on Hunter Pence agreeing with me.

That Magic Number is One

The Giants are a win away from winning 2012 World Series.  And they are having a damn good time, while they’re at it.

Too jittery and excited to write much more.  But if we’re real lucky and we have a parade in San Francisco in a few days, I’d like a little advance notice, because I need to grow a few inches before it takes place.  Being short is no fun at parades.

In other news, I am absolutely dressing up as Hunter Pence Crazy Eyes for Halloween.  Not sure how I’m going to pull that one off, but it will be fabulous when it comes to pass.
