Why I Don’t Want a Giants Belt Buckle

Much as I love my Texas Rangers, I do not live in Texas for a reason.  I do not like country music.  I do not like hot weather.  I do not wear belt buckles.  Horses sort of scare me.  And although I do have something of an incredible British accent, I can’t talk Texan for the life of me.  And I repeat, I do not wear belt buckles.  Not even Giant belt buckles.

They are a fashion-faux pas.

They are really slightly bizarre.

So what is prompting my anti-belt buckle rampage?

Well, have you taken a look at the Giants 2011 promotions calendar?

On Saturday, July 23rd (versus the Brewers, so I may actually be there) we will be treated to Country Western Night and the first 20,000 fans get a Giants belt buckle.

Where do they come up with these ideas?

If they’d promised me a coupon for a free download of Letters from Home sung by Aubrey Huff it would have gotten the same point across, but in a preferable way.  Or a DVD of The Frisco Kid, which is the only Western-ish movie I’ve even seen and that was because I am a Harrison Ford fangirl.  Or something- anything- other than a belt buckle.

Anyway.  The next day, also against the Brewers, is Fedora Day, where we all get free fedoras.  No one looks good in fedoras except A-Rod of Cam-Rod.  Even he is questionable in them.

What is it about the Brewers inspiring the Giants to bad promotions?

I’m not even going to the touch the whole Bring Your Dog Day thing.  Been there, said that.

If This is What 2011 is Like, I Want 2010 Back and Why I Am Okay With the World Ending in May

Everyone is probably totally over 1-1-11, by now, but I just looked at my web stats and saw that I had 111 visitors to my blog that day.  Isn’t the just one of those things that makes you smile?  It makes me smile, at least.

Anyway.  If this is what 2011 is like, I want 2010 back.  I’m sure I’ll change my mind soon, but this year has been pretty hellish so far.  One violent cold and an undisclosed number of bowls of potato leek soup later, I’m finally ready to start the new year.  In Diamond Girl Land, it is now January 1st.  And every day is National Cupcake Day there too, because I could really use a cupcake right now.  Because aside from my cold, the endless parade of slow news day are enough to make anyone need some cupcakes.  I guess a few things did happen.

The Rangers made their deals with Webb and Rhodes official.

And Jon Daniels said something vaguely incoherent at the press conference.

The Giants did God-only-knows-whatever-they-do-all-offseason.

Looks like it’s boring for Sabean too.

A-Rod sported a particularly atrocious fedora in Vegas.

And Armageddon is coming in May.  Good thing Ashton Kutcher is ready.

Bad shades and all.

In a little bit of good news, only 41 days until catchers and pitchers report and the 2011 season comes a little closer to reality.  Even if judgment day does come in May, we’ll get a month of the new baseball season in before then.  I am no longer afraid.

p.s.  MLBlogs is doing that thing with the bolds again.  Sorry for the weirdness.

Mini-Non-Denominational Things That Grow, Cam-Rod in Los Cabos, a Carrot for Brian Sabean and the Haunted iPod

I don’t celebrate Christmas, but I did get a Mini-Non-Denominational Thing That Grows for my desk because I am a sucker for sparkly trees.   And it sheds.  Everywhere.  All the time.  Why did nobody warn me about this occupational hazard of Mini-Non-Denominational Things That Grow?

Anyway, the only noteworthy thing I’ve found on the baseball news front these past few days is that Alex Rodriguez is spending the holidays in Los Cabos with Cameron Diaz (can we call them Cam-Rod?).  Which is, of course, very noteworthy.  Not.   Hey, GMs, please make something interesting happen.  Diamond Girl is turning into TMZ 2.0.

And Joe Martinez was designated for assignment by the Pirates.  Not good news at all.  Since Sabean is into the whole rejects and cast-offs thing, maybe he could re-sign Joey?  I’ll make him a baseball shaped carrot cake with wicked good cream cheese frosting if he does it.  Same goes for you, Doug Melvin and Jon Daniels.  Your carrot cake is waiting.

Good luck to all braving the stores for last minute shopping today.  I braved the Apple store yesterday because my iPod Touch was moving by itself.  The geniuses at the Genius Bar said it was hypersensitive and gave me a new one.  I think it was haunted.  So far the new one is being normal, but I’m keeping my distance.  Freaky iPods are… you know, freaky.

Feliz Navidad and Joyeux Noël, y’all.
