My 100th Post: Feat. Jon Daniels Extension, Ryan Braun’s Graffito and Billy Beane’s Burberry Scarf

It’s not even over yet, but today has been a really good day.  Topped off by the fact that I logged in to post this and saw that I have 99 posts.  Meaning this is the 100th.  (Fittingly, perhaps, MLBlogs is being a little odd.  Bear with me and the strange spacing.)  Wow.  I never really thought I would get as into this as I have, but I love every moment of it.  Thank you all for reading some (maybe even all?) of my 100 posts.  5 Other Great Things That Have Happened Today:

5.  The Rangers agreed to a four year extension with GM Jon Daniels.  I hugged everyone in the immediate vicinity when I read the news.

4.  Someone brought my attention to this cover story from M Magazine, 12 of Milwaukee’s Most Interesting Men“.  It alerted me to the (much-needed) re-name of Ryan Braun’s restaurant, from Ryan Braun’s Waterfront Restaurant to Ryan Braun’s Graffito (did you snicker when you read that?  I did too).  I really want go to Milwaukee now.  Maybe I could squeeze it in on my Detroit-pride trip?

3.  There has been no uncomfortable Zito news today.  The #75 storm is blowing over, people.  Blowing over.

2.  Matt Cain is planning to throw tomorrow.  I am channeling every bit of positive energy I have to him (and that’s a lot, because this is, of course, a really good day).  And Brandon Belt.  Brandon Belt.  He doesn’t need any positive energy, I guess.  No belting it out jokes, please.

p.s.  Billy Beane has a Burberry scarf?  I Googled that and realized it’s old news but he is on track to unseat Daniels as best-dressed GM unless Jon can produce some designer items of him own.

There are Surprises in Surprise, AZ, Ryan Braun Sticks His Foot Firmly In His Mouth and CJ Wilson Jeopardizes His Best Hair Crown

There were some surprises in Surprise!, AZ this morning with a big storm.  I had one of those too.  But I didn’t have adoring fans watching my every move.  I was just trying to balance my florescent green water bottle (hey, no comments.   I never lose it) and my notebook and my papers and my recently-upgraded-to-become-more-giant handbag.

The 2011 season is starting to feel like home, now that Ryan Braun has stuck his foot firmly in his mouth.  His honesty is refreshing, but he still seems to be in some sort of blissful ignorance that “to be honest with you” is not really a known phrase in contact between Major Leaguers and the press.  Last year may have been miserable, but his statement still felt a little off.

And another case where honesty went a little awry… chapter 500 of the Michael Young saga started today when he arrived at camp.  As previously stated, I am in the We Are So Puzzled We Are Not Even Going There phase with Young and I am sticking to that.  Young has his game face back on and I get the sense that whatever goes down from now on in that saga is going to be behind tightly closed doors.  Although Jon Daniels still seemed a little miffed about, you know, “his integrity being questioned”.  Who knows?   Maybe we’ll get a little more soap opera before the end.

CJ Wilson may be in danger of losing his Best Hair crown from this photo, but that food is making me stare for a long, long time.  So that’s what they eat!  Lucky MLBers.

Why I Don’t Want a Giants Belt Buckle

Much as I love my Texas Rangers, I do not live in Texas for a reason.  I do not like country music.  I do not like hot weather.  I do not wear belt buckles.  Horses sort of scare me.  And although I do have something of an incredible British accent, I can’t talk Texan for the life of me.  And I repeat, I do not wear belt buckles.  Not even Giant belt buckles.

They are a fashion-faux pas.

They are really slightly bizarre.

So what is prompting my anti-belt buckle rampage?

Well, have you taken a look at the Giants 2011 promotions calendar?

On Saturday, July 23rd (versus the Brewers, so I may actually be there) we will be treated to Country Western Night and the first 20,000 fans get a Giants belt buckle.

Where do they come up with these ideas?

If they’d promised me a coupon for a free download of Letters from Home sung by Aubrey Huff it would have gotten the same point across, but in a preferable way.  Or a DVD of The Frisco Kid, which is the only Western-ish movie I’ve even seen and that was because I am a Harrison Ford fangirl.  Or something- anything- other than a belt buckle.

Anyway.  The next day, also against the Brewers, is Fedora Day, where we all get free fedoras.  No one looks good in fedoras except A-Rod of Cam-Rod.  Even he is questionable in them.

What is it about the Brewers inspiring the Giants to bad promotions?

I’m not even going to the touch the whole Bring Your Dog Day thing.  Been there, said that.

Peace and Love and Antlers to All + My Resolutions for 2011

Peace and love and antlers to all!

I am purging 2010 (though seriously, what is there to purge?  The Giants and the Rangers played each other in the World Series) by redoing my nail polish.  Even so, I love New Year’s Eve and am pumped for 2011.  It’s going to be very good.  Armando Galarraga will do fantastically along with Eugenio Velez (he’ll do well, but the Dodgers won’t, of course) and Joe Martinez, who will be signed by the Rangers before the offseason ends.  ::Diamond Girl gives Jon Daniels a very pointed look::  The Niners may also hire me as their GM (okay, yes, that’s unlikely).  Bud Selig will decide to do important things like make the wild card wild and rename the Winter Meetings (this year from December 6th-9th) because everyone knows winter begins on December 21st.  The world will get over their Glee complex and watch baseball instead.  And the world will accept the antlers as the truth of all creation and wear them all year round.

I’m not really into New Year resolutions, but I’m going to try it this year.

1.  I resolve to visit my grandparents in Los Angeles without fighting over whether Wilson or Broxton is a better closer.

2.  I resolve to dissolve my life savings and go to Citi Field or Yankee Stadium.

3.  I resolve to carry a sign to an A’s vs. Rangers game and get the object of my sign to autograph it.

4.  I resolve to crash the 2011 GM Meetings.

5.  I resolve to repeat my feat of walking over every inch of AT&T Park in stilettos.

Okay.  I now have plenty to do next year.  Soon it’ll be time (It’s Time!) to settle in for a night of delayed Times Square.  Happy New Year everyone.   Hugs and cupcakes and aviator Prada sunglasses to all in the coming year.  2011’s gonna rule.

p.s.  2010 was my first year at this- blogging- and so I want to thank you all again for reading and commenting.  71 entries.  A lot of talk about Ryan Braun.  I dig the world.

Ryan Braun Gets Gushy, Zack Greinke Gets Fit Up With Some Sunglasses and Jayson Werth Debuts a New Look

Things that make me giddily excited: a.  the Winter Meetings.  b.  Brownies.  c.  Big, unexpected trades.  Y’all know what I’m talking about.  Even Ryan Braun seemed giddily excited.  Although I have a semi-irrational suspicion that his management had a knife to his back while he spoke to the press.  Because Ryan being that gushy about them is just odd.

Anyway, I hope it goes well for Greinke in Milwaukee.  I don’t know the team and division well enough to have an informed opinion (Brewers diehards, come to my rescue!) on whether they could really contend next year, but I obviously hope they do.  I was sad to see that Jeremy Jeffress was a part of the trade, because he was the sweet guy who threw me a ball at the Brewers game last year.  But I wish him all the best in KC.

And to congratulate Greinke on his trade, he gets some sunglasses.  Round/heart-shaped face = square sunglasses.  These are by- who else?- Prada.

Which reminded me that at Werth’s Nationals press conference on Wednesday, he debuted a decidedly better look.

 Before and After

So, true to my word, I’ve fitted him up with some designer sunglasses.

This pair wouldn’t fit on this picture, but here they are, by Giorgio Armani:

sunglasses.gif

They’re not too big, which would overwhelm his face, but they have soft angles to contrast his angular face.  And they’re only $275.  Total steal for designer sunglasses.  And total steals on designer sunglasses is another thing that makes me giddily excited.
