My Own Dreamy Team

Who else caught Barry Zito on the Unicorn Hour on KNBR on May 1st?  Listen to the podcast here, if you missed it.  Basically, Zito describes him and Dan Haren (D-Backs starting pitcher) making a “Dreamy Team”- an imaginary team of the best looking guys in baseball.  So I, of course, thought, I could totally do that!  And I even might venture to think I have better taste than Zito and Haren.

(Note:  Yes, I know David Wright is a 3rd baseman, but I couldn’t take A-Rod out so Wright will have to learn how to play 2nd.  That couldn’t be that hard, right?)

In the field

1B- Albert Pujols

2B- David Wright

SS- Jose Reyes (or Omar Vizquel, nod to my mother)

3B- Alex Rodriguez

LF- Ryan Braun

CF- Eugenio Velez

RF- Andre Ethier

C- Jorge Posada

Starting pitchers:

Tim Lincecum

Andy Pettite

Barry Zito

Madison Bumgarner

Joe Martinez

In the ‘pen

Sergio Romo

Dave Robertson

Mariano Rivera

Brian Wilson

Who’s on your Dreamy Team?  Comment and let me know.  And who else wants to pitch a Dreamy Team game- just like, or even instead of, the All-Star game- to MLB?  I’ll start collecting signatures, if anyone’s interested.  I bet our TV ratings would skyrocket.  Just saying.

Diamondgirl, some good choices. I am particularly impressed with your choice of Andre Ethier at RF, given your leanings. I know you are a big Velez fan. I enjoy his work too, but he needs to get on base more. However, he is not even on the ML roster so you need to make another pick. A former CF who now plays LF for the Tigers, Johnny Damon, not only has a baseball movie character name, he is very handsome. I might also recommend Matt Kemp, who is a great athlete and has great green eyes.
From baseball past, some others: Ron Darling (well named, and a Yalie), Steve Garvey, Tom Seaver, Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax, Hong Chi Quo (my wife’s recommendation), JimPalmer.

First of all let me start by saying that I love your blog. Catchy title & a great idea. It got me to thinking and I am afraid to say that there are entirely too many Yankees on my list. Robinson Cano’s lips are too voluptous and sexy. I don’t know, perhaps it’s the pinstripes. Just don’t let it get out or the Phillies may revoke my Season Tickets. Okay, here’s my team:

    1B) Mark Teixeira
    2B) Robinson Cano
    SS) Derek Jeter
    3B) Evan Longoria/David Wright
    C) Ivan Rodriguez
    OF) Ryan Braun/Johnny Damon/Andre Ethier
    SP) Cole Hamels/Barry Zito
    RP) JC Romero/Mariano Rivera

Maybe MLB could have a Ladies Night for charity. We could vote on our fantasy players and they could wear short shorts and NO shirts. Just a thought…just a dream, don’t wake me up. LOL
